How to Clean Treadmill Belt: A Complete Cleaning Guide to Follow

In this complete cleaning guide, we will share with you how to clean treadmill belt. Treadmills are modern exercise equipment. They are the most used workout machine too. Because of its popularity, it can be dirty in a few days or weeks.

A treadmill has many moving parts like a car. There are lubricants under the belt, near the motor, in the reels, and some other places. If it gets dirty, it will lose its lubrication. And you may lose the fluency of your favourite equipment. So you need to be aware of cleaning it in time. But without knowing the correct method, you may harm the machine, such as losing lubrication, unadjusted belt, etc.

Here are some simple steps you should follow in cleaning your treadmill belt correctly.

Read the manual

The manufacturer must have attached some instructions to clean it. Please read it and be aware of the precautions. If it is telling you not to use any liquid cleaner, then don’t do it. You should know how much you can lift the belt.

No need to unplug everything

You can do it if you want, but it’s not necessary. By removing the power cord, you won’t be able to run the treadmill, which you may need to clean the belt easily. Let the safety key right in place. Just make sure that you don’t do any damage to them while working.

Clean the upper side at first

As the treadmill belt has two sides, you should clean the top side first. If you go for the downside, you may make it dirty again by the time of cleaning the upper part.

Use a feather duster to wipe out the dust on the surface. You can use an old t-shirt too. Many companies do not recommend to use any liquid to clean the belt. You can use it if it’s too dirty but be 100% careful. Don’t let the liquid pass inside the belt. It may cause losing lubrication or other damage.

For this, take the cleaning solution, carefully spray it on the belt or rub it with a soft cloth. Use a small amount of these. Don’t spray more than needed. Let the treadmill run at 0.5 mph. And rub it to remove dirt. Roll it to the opposite side and do it again. After that, wipe the moisture on the surface.

Finish the inner part as well

After finishing the top surface, it’s time to clean the inner part. If your treadmills belt is attached below and you can not lift it easily, loosen the screw at the foot side of your treadmill, and lift it a bit higher. For other types of machines, when your belt is correctly tightened, you will be able to lift it almost 2 or 3 inches. If not, follow the loose screw process. For the inner surface, don’t use any cleaning solution. Put the duster inside and roll the treadmill. You can also run it at 0.5 or 1 mph while doing this. Watch your fingers. Any type of soft stuff will work in this case. After two or three cycles, please turn it off and remove your duster.

Adjust the belt

If you have loosened the screw, tight them. Then let it run for a minute or two to check if it is perfectly balanced from both sides. If not, make the necessary tightening process at one side, you don’t need to adjust it from both sides at the same time. Just do it for one side and try to match it with the other.

When adjusting is finished, you are ready to have a walk on your treadmill.
